Ninth project meeting

The ninth project meeting was held in Hoorn from 26 June to 29 June 2016. The main goal of this meeting was work on the book, which is a core prduct of this project. During the meeting we discussed about technical parameters of the book, layout of particular pages and content issues so that all materials which were already created during the project life cycle could be adjusted and used in the publication. During this visit we also concentrated on the topic of traditions, when visiting the town Volendam, we had the chance to see production of cheese in a local factory as well as making of wooden schoes. Another interesting experience was a visit to the museum in Enkhuisen. A part of this museum is an open-air folk museum with houses which were moved there from different parts of Holland. An impressive part represents especially a street after floods, demonstrating the power and danger of the sea. In this street, houses damaged by floods are placed and in a small info center in front of the street the visitors can get to know about the history of Holland and the big flood in 1953, which was a stimulus for the beginning of dike building. In the year 1953 a huge part of southern provinces disappeared under the water, the government decided to start the fight with the sea  and enormous dike building  dike building was started. These dikes are unique in the world. An integral part of Dutch traditions is also a saying: without dikes Holland would not exist. During this meeting  we also delt with artephiletics during two common workshops. First of them was named Under the magnifying glass and focused on human body and its perception. The second workshop was namedCities and focused on stereotypes in housing and living.
